AGENT DRIVEN ARTWORK
I currently have an agent and a publisher that influence my work.
My agent knows my artwork and myself and commissions works to fill contracts that they have undertaken with major corporations looking for original Australian artwork, and they pay me for unframed works.
My publisher uses my artwork to create reproductions of my artwork on cards, calendars and reproduction prints that are sold in major galleries throughout Australia, and I receive a royalty for works sold.
Commissions from agents interrupt all other artwork plans until they are complete as they come with deadlines that cannot be broken or payment will not be received.
Brief from 2017:
10 artworks on Australian Birds within A2 format.
Client: New Mental Health Hospital in North Sydney.
My considerations:
All artworks need to be balanced both compositionally and psychologically so as not to disturb the viewers.
Solutions included:

My considerations:
All artworks need to be balanced both compositionally and psychologically so as not to disturb the viewers.
Solutions included:
- Restricting colour to the birds and leaving the background black and white to take away the association of place.
- Making sure there was no feeling of dominance or chase in the grouping of the birds, and making sure that any reds were warm.
- Choosing the concept of ‘conversations’ to give more meaning to the artwork and to give a basis for compositional design. There is also the intention/purpose that the artwork can be used to interact with the clients at the hospital. Clients can interact with the artwork themselves or professionals can interact with the clients through the artwork.
